![]() In answer to your question about proof marks, yes. There in several closeup pics is the exact same wording as mine. They actually have a number of 1890's and 1906's for sale and do a very thorough job of posting pics of em. I continued looking and ended up at Homestead Firearms website. Thanks Ray but actually I believe I've answered my own question. ![]() Only reason I'm still questioning it is I know Winchester is long removed from the original owners and I'm just not sure how much they know about products of this vintage.Īny help would be appreciated! It's a beautiful old rifle and getting some history on it is important to me as it'll stay in the family forever but I certainly won't, so having a written record for the future seems like a logical thing to do to me. No where does it say 1890 and on one site I found (you know web sites) a guy posted that if it didn't say 1890 it was a replacement barrel but when I called Winchester the fella there said "MODEL 1890" and just "MODEL 90" were both used? If it were a replacement it would have had to be from Winchester due to their trademarks on it. and then goes on to say (-Model 90.-.22 Long.) My question is, on the top-left flat of the octagon barrel it has all the Manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms New Haven.etc etc. The serial # on the 90 indicates it was made in 1909. 22 Long, as well as a 1906 round barrel chambered for short, long and long rifle. I just was given by my aging father-in-law a 3rd edition 1890 pump chambered in. I asked this same question on an older thread out of the archives but thought I'd take a run at er as a stand alone thread as well.
